Old Photographs Re-colored Contained in this gallery is a collection of old photographs to which I added color. Every photograph is known and identified in the gallery. Some of the results are quite dramatic and I have included the original unedited photos for comparison.

Mary Worley Wolfe (1922-2007) These photographs are of Mary Worley Wolfe, who lived at Deardorff's Mill located in Latimore Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania. Mary was a lifelong member of the York Springs Historical Society.

Hermie Masemer Worley (1889 - 1978) This collection of photographs is from an old album dated 1919 and labeled as belonging to Hermie Masemer. Hermie Masemer was born Jan. 26, 1889, in Hamilton Township, Adams County and was married to Chester B. Worley. Though her given name was Herma, her first name was almost always given as Hermie. The photos within are of family members.

Deardorff's Mill Deardorff's Mill is a historic site located in Latimore Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania. Though only the foundation remains today, these photographs show how the mill used to look when it was still in operation. It was constructed by Isaac Deardorff in the late 1700s and taken down, due to safety concerns, in the early 1900s.

Wright House The Wright House is another historic site in Latimore Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania. It is currently located on private property and in a state of extreme disrepair. There were secret compartments in the house which were used to hide slaves during the time of the Underground Railroad. The black and white photos are from the 1920s and the rest are from 1993.

Map of Adams County, Pennsylvania This 1858 map of Adams County, PA, available from The Library of Congress - American Memory website, portrays Adams County at the young age of 58. Formed in 1800, the county was made from part of York County. Various images surround the map, showing prominent places within the county.

The Civil War The single item in this gallery is a letter dated just one year before the Battle of Gettysburg. Its significance is unknown, but the message it conveys is clear.

World War I This poster was put out by the Executive Committee of Adams County to encourage the buying of war bonds. The deceased soldiers in the photographs were all members of Adams County.
